Positive Peer Culture
Falcon Ridge Ranch uses a comprehensive and specific treatment methodology called Positive Peer Culture. Positive Peer Culture utilizes a conflict resolution approach. It facilitates an atmosphere of dignity and respect in which adolescents learn responsibility. It encourages students to be creative in solving their own problems. By teaching young women Positive Peer Culture, they learn natural consequences and become accountable for their choices.
Positive Peer Culture is value-based and solution orientated. Looking for blame creates defensiveness. Looking for solutions invites cooperation. When students are involved in decision making, they have motivation to follow their own decisions.
We see mistakes as stepping stones not stumbling blocks. We use encouragement rather than praise. Encouragement promotes self-evaluation. Validation is derived from real achievement rather than praise.
Students realize they are happier when making positive changes in their thoughts and actions. Self-centeredness is displaced by assuming responsibility beyond one's self. Young women have increased self-esteem as they help others and achieve meaningful goals.
